Metamorphosis of a Library

In 2020, teo jakob developed the furnishing concept for the new library of HEAD – Genève. Through tailored planning, a carefully defined colour concept and precise organisation, the new campus gained a functional and inspiring learning environment with a strong identity.

For the new campus of the Geneva University of Art and Design HEAD – Genève, teo jakob developed the furnishing concept for the library and adjoining administrative areas in 2020. Following the consolidation of several locations across Geneva, a new centralised learning and working environment was created in the Charmilles district within a building designed in 1956 by architect Georges Addor. teo jakob supported the project from the evaluation of the former library spaces through to requirements planning, delivery and installation of the new furnishings. Together with the university, a colour concept was defined to clearly structure the different functions and zones throughout the building. The result is a library environment that combines orientation, functionality and comfort while strengthening the architectural and organisational identity of the new campus.

«Our aim was to create a library that is much more than just an archive. Through clear zoning, a precise colour scheme and flexible furniture, we have created a space that equally supports learning, interaction and navigation.»
