Harmony in Dialogue with Concrete

The owners of a penthouse wanted a warm, inviting contrast to exposed concrete and large windows. Together with teo jakob, an interior design concept was created that combines architecture, design classics and carefully selected textiles into a harmonious whole.

The penthouse has expansive views to the southeast toward Lake Geneva and the mountains. Exposed concrete, glass and clean lines characterise the architecture. The task for teo jakob was to fill this minimalist setting with warmth, character and personal accents. The starting point was the desire for furniture that combines high-quality design with everyday usability and functions both indoors and outdoors.

To create clear separate spaces without sacrificing the openness of the space or the view along the window façades, the USM Haller furniture, designed in 1963 by Fritz Haller (1924–2012) and Paul Schärer (1933–2011), is employed.

The shelving system by Nils Holger is used as a spacious library and shapes the space with its clear structure. It offers generous room for books and objects, making the collection itself a feature of the design.

The «Altorfer» lounge chair, designed by Huldreich Altorfer (1895–1977) for Embru, invites one to relax and read.

«The challenge was to introduce warmth to the clear architecture with exposed concrete and expansive window façades. Through carefully selected furniture, textiles and purposeful spatial separation, we were able to develop an interior concept with harmony and strong character in collaboration with the client.»
