Interior Design of the Brig University Campus

Careful furniture selection and bespoke built-ins at the Brig Campus demonstrate how a New Work environment can be realised in a contemporary university setting.

The new building by Markus Schietsch Architects in the Rhonesand Quarter, which came into operation in 2021, brings together around 2,900 students of the Swiss Distance-Learning University of Applied Sciences. teo jakob assisted the client in selecting furniture and colours and harmonised the interior design with the clear architecture. Free-standing walls and circular atria organise the interior into two-storey clusters for teaching, research and informational exchange.

For the Brig Campus, the artist duo Sarah Kueng and Lovis Caputo designed sculptural standing tables that shape the central atrium. They recall a smiling face and thus, in a subtle way, reference the communicative character of the space.

Worktables from Identi AG are complemented by «Physix» office swivel-chairs, designed in 2012 by Alberto Meda for Vitra. Elastic, knitted upholstery and a flexible frame promote active sitting with a finely-adjustable back-rest.

«Dinamica», designed by Kurt Greter for Identi AG, is a precisely crafted table system with clean lines. The electric height adjustment supports ergonomic workflows.

«Demetra», designed in 2012 by Naoto Fukasawa for Artemide, is an LED task lamp with adjustable arms, a pivoting head and dimmable light.

«Ant» chairs, designed in 1952 by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, are among the earliest moulded plywood chairs of the modern era.

«SE 68», designed in 1951 by Egon Eiermann, has been a staple of teo jakob’s product range since the 1950s. On the Brig Campus, the beechwood and steel chair serves as a versatile seating option and is among the earliest stackable models.
