New Work – A Tailor-Made Solution for BNC

teo jakob created an interior design concept for the IT service provider BNC in Bern that combines openness, efficiency and well-being. New spatial structures promote interaction and concentration. A place that redefines work.

BNC moved into the top two floors of a repurposed commercial complex in Bern. Fixed team offices were superseded by an open-plan office and shared desks, and the number of workstations was reduced by one fifth. Over an area of approximately 1,100 square metres, these are supplemented by meeting areas, focused working areas, booths and interactional areas. Partially glazed room elements divide the space and offer privacy, whilst subdued colours and targeted accents guide focus and interaction. The industrial design underscores the technical character. teo jakob was responsible for the concept and its implementation, precisely tailored to the corporate culture.

In the open working area, the «Outline» sofa, designed by Torbjørn Anderssen (born in 1976) and Espen Voll (born in 1965) for Muuto, invites conversation. In addition, the «Around» side table, designed by Thomas Bentzen (born in 1980) for Muuto, and the «Relate» side table, designed by BIG-GAME, comprised of Grégoire Jeanmonod (born in 1978), Elric Petit (born in 1978) and Augustin Scott de Martinville (born in 1980), for Muuto.

In the focused working area, the «Space M» acoustic pod, designed by Mute for Mute, facilitates concentration. Additionally, the «Outline Highback Cabin» sofa, designed by Torbjørn Anderssen (born in 1976) and Espen Voll (born in 1965) for Muuto, offers support and tranquillity. The «Common Rice Paper Shade» pendant lamp, designed by HAY for HAY, completes the scene with uniform light.

The USM Haller shelving system, designed by Fritz Haller (1924–2012) and Paul Schärer (1933–2011) for USM, provides robust organisation for everyday project work.

«We implemented shared desks and simultaneously increased quality per square metre. With meeting rooms, focused working areas and interactional areas, a work environment was created that fosters growth and makes daily work appreciably more efficient.»

«Spatial separation by means of partially glazed elements creates structure, privacy and clear alignment. Subdued colours foster concentration, invigorating tones encourage interaction and industrial plywood brings warmth to the technical DNA of the space.»
