Interior Design of a Monastery

Through furniture classics, contemporary designs and bespoke built-ins, rooms and lounge areas were created within the historic ensemble of Fischingen Monastery, allowing guests to newly experience the tranquil atmosphere of the baroque complex.

teo jakob devised the furnishing and colour scheme, collaborating closely with the monastery’s carpentry workshop, which crafted cabinets, beds and benches. These built-in elements are complemented by selected furniture classics from Fritz Hansen, Thonet, Vitra, Wittmann and horgenglarus, as well as lighting fixtures from Marset.

In collaboration with the monastery carpentry workshop, precision-crafted beds and benches made of solid wood were created. As a contemporary accent, the dark blue «Sticks» side table, designed in 2017 by Jaime Hayon for Wittmann, is placed in the rooms.

By the window stands the «119 SPF» lounge chair, designed in 2019 by Sebastian Herkner for Thonet. The design takes the bentwood principle further and shows how delicately curved elements and a generous seating shell provide contemporary comfort.

The «Ro JH2» lounge chair, designed by Jaime Hayon for Fritz Hansen, introduces soft accents in the lounge areas.

The «Swan»chair by Arne Jacobsen was designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. The meticulous upholstery lends an air of lightness and exceptional seating comfort to the design.

Textiles characterise the newly furnished rooms of Fischingen Monastery. Carpets, curtains and bed linen improve acoustics and glare protection and create sustainable accents.

The «Palette Table JH9», designed in 2019 by Jaime Hayon for &Tradition, is characterised by an asymmetrical layer arrangement. The «Mikado» armchair, designed in 2015 by Barber Osgerby for Vitra, and the «Bicoca» lamp, designed in 2018 by Christophe Mathieu for Marset, accentuate the baroque rooms with clearly defined forms

The «11-020» stool, designed in 1954 by Michel Péclard for horgenglarus, was colour-co-ordinated with the furnishings at Fischingen.
