Vitra

Vitra is a Swiss design company headquartered in Birsfelden, with manufacturing facilities in Weil am Rhein. In the 1950s, collaboration with Charles and Ray Eames began; later, designs by George Nelson and Verner Panton followed, many of which remain in production to this day. The «Eames Lounge Chair» (1956) combines moulded plywood with leather upholstery. The «Eames Plastic Chairs» are among the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs. The «Panton Chair» (1960) is the first cantilevered chair made from a single piece of plastic. Contemporary items, such as the modular «Anagram» sofa by Panter & Tourron, continue this development.

As early as 1957, teo jakob in Geneva offered the «Eames Armchair», making it one of the first Swiss suppliers of modern American furniture. Teo Jakob maintained close personal ties with Ray Eames and Vitra founder Willi Fehlbaum. A relationship from which enduring expertise has developed to this day. Vitra furniture is planned at teo jakob in the context of residential and workplace architecture.
