Alpine Modern in Grindelwald

For a chalet in Grindelwald, a holistic interior design concept was created, combining modern design with alpine cosiness. A timeless retreat came into being without the usual Alpine kitsch, with views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

teo jakob implemented a modern living concept for the chalet in Grindelwald. Furnishings, textiles and lighting design were implemented across three storeys of space. Rugs, curtains and smart lighting control create warmth, complemented by a seating landscape, a dining area for up to twelve people and weather-resistant terrace furnishings.

In the entrance area, sculptural coat hooks make a bold statement. The «ivy» coat hooks, designed in 2015 by Baptiste Ducommun (born in 1987) for Klybeck and produced in Basel, interpret the antler motif.

The «Groundpiece» sofa, designed in 2001 by Antonio Citterio (born in 1950) for Flexform, forms the centrepiece of the living area. teo jakob combines the «Soleide» coffee table by Maxalto and the «Frank» coffee table by B&B Italia, both designed by Antonio Citterio, with the «Fez» floor lamp by Baltensweiler and the «GT6» pendant lamp by Santa & Cole.

The «Febo» chairs, designed in 2010 by Antonio Citterio (born in 1950) for Maxalto, are arranged with the «Kaname» table, designed in 2012 by Philipp Mainzer (born in 1963) for e15, to create a spacious dining area. The ensemble is complemented by the «Series 28» pendant luminaire, designed in 2005 by Omer Arbel (born in 1976) for Bocci, which, with its sculptural lighting effect, brings warmth and elegance to the space.

The «Fat» armchair, designed in 2008 by Patricia Urquiola (born in 1961) for B&B Italia, defines the lounge area on the children’s level. It is complemented by the «Nex» shelf from Piure and the «Mito aura» ceiling luminaire from Occhio, which provides precisely directed lighting.

The garden chairs and the classic garden table from Atelier Alinea create a pared-back, robust seating area on the terrace. The seating ensemble is complemented by the «Bon Jour» cordless lamp, designed in 2015 by Philippe Starck (born in 1949) for Flos, atmospherically illuminates the outdoor space.

«Our aim was to blend alpine cosiness with contemporary interior design – without clichés. Through carefully selected furniture, textiles and precise lighting design, a peaceful retreat was created that respects the unique character of the location.»
