Verner Panton (1926–1998) was one of the most influential architects and designers of his time. Born in Denmark, he moved to Switzerland in the early 1960s, where he worked closely with Vitra to develop the concept of the Panton Chair to the point where it was ready for production. This led to the creation of the Panton Chair, which was unveiled in 1967 and remains to this day a symbol of Panton’s radical approach to form and everyday life.
To mark the 2026 anniversary, the focus is also on Panton’s upholstered furniture. Their bold, colourful fabrics are part of the collection’s DNA, yet do not always feel quite at home in contemporary interiors. This is precisely where the update comes in: Vitra has updated the fabric selection and added a high-quality leather option. The materials have been chosen to blend harmoniously into sophisticated living and working spaces.
