Holiday Home in Vercorin

A compact holiday home with clear spatial logic was created in the Valais Alps on a 51 square metre footprint. High ceilings, split levels and sightlines create a feeling of spaciousness, while natural materials provide calm and structure.

The Interior Design Team at teo jakob developed the house in Vercorin from the inside out. Skylights and large windows bring light into the depths of the space. Swiss pine, Vals stoneware, and black fixtures give structure to the internal space, while untreated larch protects the external structure.

The long, narrow building creates sight lines along its entire length. The split-level architecture with staggered floors subtly separates functions, connects the living and sleeping areas, and emphasises the vertical spatial effect.

The fireplace, clad with concrete elements, separates the open living area into zones and combines exposed concrete with wood. The handleless, perfectly fitting black kitchen was designed by teo jakob, manufactured by long-standing partners, and installed on-site with millimetre precision.

The «Vals» robust porcelain stoneware flooring by Marazzi recalls Vals quartzite and meets the highest standards for alpine interiors.

The «Eames Plastic Armchair DAW» (Charles & Ray Eames, 1950, Vitra) armchair is among the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs. Today, polypropylene is used instead of fibreglass-reinforced polyester, resulting in softer surfaces and more sustainable production.

The small holiday home in the Valais Alps was realised as a compact wooden structure and was completely redesigned by the Interior Architecture Team at teo jakob.

The untreated larch facade and terrace develop a silver-grey patina over time, a traditional alpine strategy for natural material ageing.

«Our goal was to develop a made-to-measure wooden structure for the owner on a footprint of only 51 square metres: meticulously integrated like on a ship, efficient in use, and, thanks to generous ceiling heights and skylights, bathed in light and remarkably spacious in experience.»
