Holiday Home with Pavilion at Lake Murten

An existing holiday home on Lake Murten was extended with a wooden pavilion and a compact second living unit. The clear architecture creates a tranquil setting for summer and seclusion.

The holiday home on Lake Murten was expanded and re-organised according to a concept by teo jakob. A wooden pavilion replaces the former garage and creates an open loggia as an outdoor space; the garage was converted into a compact living unit with dining area, lounge and sleeping niche. Natural materials and clean lines keep the floor plan light.

The «Ribes» modular outdoor sofa, designed in 2019 by Antonio Citterio for B&B Italia, is based on a futon over an aluminium frame with flexible fibreglass rails.

The «Lehni» table, designed in 1977 by Georg Gisel for Lehni, and the «Wishbone» chairs, designed in 1949/50 by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Son, define the space. A USM Haller shelving unit, designed in 1963/69 by Fritz Haller and Paul Schärer, provides a functional addition to the interior.

Family heirlooms meet modern furnishings. A dialogue between the existing and the new.

A narrow wooden staircase leads up to the sleeping level, where the «Thut 918» bed, designed in 1953 by Kurt Thut for Thut Möbel, stands. A reading lamp from Baltensweiler and a white furniture piece from USM Haller complement the room.

«An autonomous studio flat characterised by the use of wood has emerged from the now-obsolete garage.»
