Mid-Century Design in Basel Historic Building

teo jakob developed a furnishing concept for an Art Nouveau flat in Basel that combines historic architecture with Mid-Century design. Through the careful selection of classic design pieces, a contemporary home with character was created for a family of four.

In 2023, teo jakob realised a furnishing concept for an Art Nouveau flat at Rütimeyerplatz in Basel, blending historic architecture with Mid-Century design. Wood, marble and brass emphasise the warm atmosphere. The floor plan in the lounge was configured to allow the living and dining areas to interact harmoniously. Thanks to its modular design, the sofa could be brought in through the narrow staircase. This resulted in a stylish interior that supports the family’s everyday life.

The «Grand Prix» chair by Fritz Hansen was paired with the «Saarinen» table by Knoll. The «Resonant» pendant lamp by Audo Copenhagen creates a serene, Scandinavian accent.

The «Antigua» chest of drawers, designed by Luca Nichetto (born in 1976) for Wittmann, is combined with the «Minipipistrello» table lamp by Martinelli Luce to form an elegant ensemble.

The «Pipistrello» table lamp, designed in 1965 by Gae Aulenti (1927–2012) for Martinelli Luce, is a design classic with organic lines.

The «Hang it all» wardrobe by Vitra is shaped and complemented by the «Ihana» ceiling light, designed in 2022 by Joanna Laajisto (born in 1980) for Marset, together shape and set clear accents in the entryway.

A kitchen table from the 19th century is combined with the «Eames Plastic Side Chair» by Vitra, blending history with modern design. «Wire Chairs» by Vitra are additionally added.

The «Meshmatics» pendant lamp, designed in 2017 by Rick Tegelaar (born in 1986) for Moooi, diffuses light through its fine wire mesh.

The «Shell» cabinet, designed in 1998 by Ubald Klug (born in 1955) for Röthlisberger, occupies a central position as a stand-alone piece. The cabinet is complemented by the «Zettel’z» lamp, designed in 1997 by Ingo Maurer (1932–2019).
