Furnishing the Schweizerhof Hotel in Bern

For the Schweizerhof Hotel in Bern, teo jakob developed a concept that re-orients the lobby and a studio hotel room, precisely staging design classics within the hotel context.

Designs by Eileen Gray, Trix & Robert Haussmann and Hans Eichenberger are strategically featured in the lobby. The «Timeless Design Studio» (completed in 2023) additionally showcases furniture from seven decades. From Verner Panton’s «Flowerpot» lamps to the «Rag Chair» by Tejo Remy, crafted from repurposed hotel uniforms.

Swiss classics such as the «Haussmann» sofa, designed by Trix & Robert Haussmann in 1962, a vase by Margrit Linck-Daepp, and the «HE» standing lamp, designed by Hans Eichenberger in 1954, exemplify this intermeshing of designs.

The «NMSH» side table, designed in 2023 by NM3, adds a contemporary touch. The «RON RON» stool, designed by Marion Baruch in 1972, in turn, demonstrates the experimental design language of the 1970s.

The «Tower A (High-Rise)» shelf, designed in 2022 by Ben Ganz, transforms the skyscraper silhouette into a sculptural piece of furniture; the «No Sale» mirror, designed in 2023 by Lorenza Longhi for Specchi Magici, featuring a Liz Taylor quote from «Butterfield 8», references her stay at the Schweizerhof Hotel in Bern.

The «Tulip» table, designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll, provides legroom thanks to its central pedestal. Also featured are the «Superleggera 699» by Gio Ponti, the «Cloud Lamp» by Susi and Ueli Berger, as well as the «Cauliflower» bowl by Nathalie du Pasquier, providing a colourful Memphis accent.

The portable «Flowerpot VP9», designed by Verner Panton for &Tradition, recalls the flowerpot lamps featured in the Bond film at the Schweizerhof; the «Prima / 601» chair, designed by Mario Botta for Alias, and the «Wooden Side Tables», designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Vitra, create functional highlights.

«With the «Timeless Design Studio», we wanted to make teo jakob’s design history at the Schweizerhof tangible – not as a nostalgic exhibition, but as a lively space for encounters. From the classic «Flowerpot» lamp to iconic furniture and the unique «Rag Chair» crafted from old hotel uniforms, all the pieces come together to tell a story: Timeless design is always an expression of living culture.»
