New Light For An Early Modernist House

A residential building from 1914 was technologically and spatially renovated under the direction of teo jakob. The new lighting concept organises daily life and creates atmosphere without altering the historical character of the house.

The detached house, featuring a bay window, sweeping wooden staircase and stucco mouldings, was spatially optimised without losing its original atmosphere. teo jakob organised the ambient and accent lighting and added indoor and outdoor furnishings that reflect the architecture, making the house liveable again as a contemporary interpretation of the original.

The «TIX» table, designed in 2002 by Dante Bonuccelli for Mobimex, combines a solid wooden top with a base made of brushed aluminium. Above it is the «Ghost» pendant lamp, designed in 2002 by Arik Levy for Vibia.

The «Eames Plastic Side Chair DSW», designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames, was the first mass-produced plastic chair. To this day, it is regarded as contemporary design for functional seating.

The «14.3» pendant lamp, designed in 2005 by Omer Arbel for Bocci, features mouth-blown glass globes containing trapped air bubbles.

The «Conical Head» pendant lamp, designed in 1951 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, is among the brothers» earliest designs. The conical reflector focuses the light downwards and prevents glare.

In the bathroom, the «Mito Sfera Su 60» mirror lamp, designed in 2018 by Occhio, provides targeted, glare-free light at the washbasin.

«With this single-family house, built in 1914, our aim was to retain the unique character of the Gründerzeit architecture and to enhance it with a contemporary lighting concept. Strategically placed luminaires, calm ambient lighting and a few new furniture elements once again make the house bright, inviting and seamless – a home, in which the whole family feels at ease.»
