Terrace House Renovation

Through targeted interior architectural interventions, teo jakob transformed a twenty-year-old terrace house in Zurich into a warm, contemporary home. New windows, natural materials and precise furnishing strengthen the connexion to the landscape and create a calm, harmonious atmosphere.

The exposed-concrete terrace house built in 2004 was rebalanced by teo jakob through a holistic interior architecture concept. New wood and metal windows with oaken frames bring warmth and frame the landscape. The colour scheme, furnishings and lighting design were precisely adapted, and a bathroom was integrated into the dressing area. The new furniture also lends lightness and structure to the unchanged garden.

The garden chair and classic garden table from Atelier Alinea bring structure and lightness to the outdoor space and strengthen the connexion to the landscape.

In the expansive kitchen area, the «Eames Plastic Side Chair RE DSW», designed by Charles Eames (1907–1978) and Ray Eames (1912–1988) for Vitra, is showcased. It is complemented by the «Copenhagen Pendant SC6» pendant lamp, designed by Space Copenhagen for &tradition.

On the upper storey, a new kitchen concept with clear lines and natural materials was created, harmoniously blending into the existing structure.

The new fireplace forms the centrepiece of the living area and is complemented by a restrained furnishing scheme that brings material composition, proportions and function into balanced interaction.

On the ground floor, a new colour and material concept with integrated built-ins creates a warm and clear entrance area.

«Our aim was to rebalance the exposed-concrete terrace house through new windows, a precise choice of materials and harmonised lighting design, so that the interior and landscape once again form a calm, harmonious whole.»
