Since 2012, Switzerland has had a labelling obligation for the species and origin of round and raw woods as well as certain solid wooden products. The aim of the corresponding regulation is to create transparency for traders and consumers.
The most important tool for correct wood labelling is the BFK wood database. In this database, traders and consumers can access both the scientific names and the trade names of wood species as indicated in sales literature. In addition, the database provides information on the distribution areas of wood species and indicates whether they may fall under species protection agreements.
