Port for the Future of Aviation

At the Lufthansa Aviation Training Centre TC2020 in Opfikon, teo jakob furnished over 90 training halls, offices and classrooms. The furnishing concept supports new forms of learning, promotes collaboration and focused work and, at the same time, meets high requirements for functionality, flexibility and durability.

With the consolidation of training infrastructure, one of Switzerland’s most important flight training centres was established in Opfikon. In the new Lufthansa Aviation Training Center TC2020 building, a vast array of spaces comprising more than 90 training halls, classrooms, meeting and briefing rooms, as well as office spaces, had to be furnished within just six weeks. Time, logistics and material availability determined the progress of the project.

At the workstations, the «Physix» office chairs, designed in 2012 by Alberto Meda (born in 1945) for Vitra, are employed. They are complemented by the «Dancing Wall», designed by Stephan Hürlemann for Vitra, which enables flexible spatial separation in the room.

In project spaces and informal areas, the «Soft Work» sofa by Vitra offers flexible seating and working arrangements. It is complemented by the «Stool 60» by Artek.

For standing meetings and short breaks, the «Stool 64» stools, designed in 1935 by Alvar Aalto (1898–1976) for Artek, stand ready at the high tables.

«The major challenge lay in the tight time frame and the complexity of the diverse spaces. Through clear decision-making processes, close co-ordination with all stakeholders and flexible furnishings, we were able to create a functional and future-oriented training environment within a short time frame.»
